She welds the last connectors and feels a small thaw toward the guy. He brought the metal and stuck around through the process. She tells him it might have worked out better than she thought after all the earlier headaches.
Flashback Chapter 5: Kes Hides a Secret as Tuvok Seizes Again
Chapter 5 is short, claustrophobic, and mostly Kes versus the Doctor. No bridge scenes. No Excelsior flashbacks yet. Just sickbay, a second seizure, and a teenager making a decision that sounds compassionate and might be a mistake.

Flashback Chapter 4: Janeway Confronts Tuvok's False Memory
Chapter 4 is a big one. Janeway leaves the bridge, Tuvok tries to explain the unexplainable, Kes quietly carries a secret, and by the end Tuvok is talking about Klingon space and cloaked ships like he’s back on the Excelsior. The book finally starts winking at the episode you came to see.
