Chapter 28 is Janeway at her most Janeway. Locking the tractor beam on the shuttle was the easy part. Getting everyone out alive while a dozen P’nir cruisers converge and the shuttle’s shields are basically decorative? That is the job.

Title: Star Trek: Voyager #16 - Day of Honor
Authors: Michael Jan Friedman and Jeri Taylor
ISBN: 978-0671019815

Out in the void, Temmis Rahmin steps onto the bridge of a Caatati survivor ship and tries not to think about hunger. His crew left their home system a year ago. Power is dying. Food is scarce. The viewscreen flickers with static. Then technician Aruun spots something that changes everything: a red blip. An alien vessel traveling at twenty times light speed, and their courses are converging.

Kim and K't'rien Board the P'nir Ship by Transporter

Star Trek: Voyager: Ragnarok
By Nathan Archer
ISBN: 067152044X
Published 1995

Chapter 26 is the chapter where a transporter hop turns into a horror show. The P’nir energy projector in the hangar is not ready yet. Guards have retreated behind shielded corridors. Only a handful of unarmed workers remain near the assembly. Chakotay decides it is safe enough to drop shields for a moment.

The P'nir Build a Mysterious Energy Projector

Star Trek: Voyager: Ragnarok
By Nathan Archer
ISBN: 067152044X
Published 1995

Chapter 25 is where the siege metaphor stops being a metaphor. Chakotay, Kim, Rollins, and Bereyt are trapped in their shuttle inside a P’nir hangar bay, and the enemy has stopped shooting at them. That sounds like good news until you see what they are building instead.

Paris Surveys Kirse Farmlands and Gardeners Turn Hostile

Tom Paris is strapped into a Kirse shuttle, watching Grayrose bank so hard he wonders if she is immune to g-force or just trying to kill him. Revek is along for the ride, and the whole trip feels like a mix of a theme park ride and a job interview. Paris has started thinking of Voyager as home. That is new for him.

The Black Shore Chapter 8: Torres Finds Antimatter and the Crew Runs on Fumes

Chapter 8 is where the vacation hangover kicks in and the plot finally shows its teeth.

Chakotay is on the bridge. Susan Tukwila is ten minutes late for her shift. Her hair is messy. Her commbadge is upside down. Dark circles under her eyes. Chakotay fixes the badge himself and lectures her about standards. She smirks and asks what Starfleet rigamarole even matters this far from home.

Chakotay Discovers Veruna's Colony Ship and the Soul's Journey in Chapter 9

Previous: Chapter 8: The Murdered Sun Revealed | Next: Chapter 10: Garai and Linneas Aboard the Destroyer

Chapter 9 splits the action again. On Voyager, Kim just cracked the murdered sun mystery. On Veruna Four, Chakotay is living inside the consequences. Golden uses him to explore oral tradition, Prime Directive guilt, and a reveal so big it reframes the entire Verunan civilization.

Bless the Beasts Chapter 8: Paris Fights a Guard and Borizus Collapses on Voyager

On the Micasz vessel the darra gather around the ship at feeding time. Paris and Kim toss buckets of squirming spiderworms over the side. The creatures churn the water with their tails as they eat. Marima drags herself on deck to help even though she is shaking badly. Her knees buckle in several places. She collapses again with her eyes rolling back. Harry catches her head in his lap. Paris calls to the guards for medical help for the lord councillor’s daughter. The guard just grunts and turns away. Paris shoves the issue and gets slugged hard. He ducks and lands solid hits on the alien’s face and neck before the big Micaszian slams him across the deck. Paris’s head hits something and he blacks out.

Janeway Slows Down in a Dead Star System

Star Trek: Voyager: Ragnarok
By Nathan Archer
ISBN: 067152044X

Chapter 5 slows the pace, literally. Janeway orders impulse as Voyager nears another system. Neelix mutters that if she insists on crossing the cluster, she could at least do it faster. Nothing alive out here except the Hachai and P’nir, and you will not get supplies from them.
