After going section by section, I think Blind Willie works because it stays practical.
King does not build this story on big twists. He builds it on routine. Trains, keys, elevators, restroom stalls, cash rolls, city noise, winter light. That physical detail makes the emotional weight believable.
Night brings a softer tone, but not safety.
After guests leave, Bill and Sharon settle in. They talk in bed, share affection, and do regular couple talk about the party and the day.
This chapter is procedural and disturbing at the same time.
Willie opens the case, separates bills, and packs coins into cloth bags in the storage annex. Then we learn this is part of a larger routine. He has hundreds of coin bags stored away.
Back outside in the snow, Willie runs into Ralph near another street Santa.
The conversation is friendly, almost sweet. They joke, trade their usual handshake routine, and talk about work and Christmas timing.
This section takes place in the Sheraton Gotham, and it is all about controlled risk.
Willie enters the crowded lobby as Blind Willie, moves to the restroom, and switches back into sighted Bill. Jacket, cane, posture, timing. Every move is practiced.
