Chapter 9 keeps switching between kindness and horror.

Heat starts taking walkers fast. Bodies fail in plain sight.
Then one bystander tries to give them watermelon. Police tackle him, but he still gets pieces to the boys. It is a tiny act, but it feels huge in this world.
Soon after, a hailstorm rolls in and another walker dies in panic.
My take is this chapter nails the chaos of the Walk. You get a flash of human decency, then the system swallows it again.
