Abraham pushes a no-help pact, and Garraty agrees even though it eats at him.

Then Collie Parker grabs a rifle, kills a soldier, and tries to start a revolt. No one joins him. He is shot almost immediately.

After that, the road gets even colder. More walkers go down. Abraham dies near dawn as they cross into New Hampshire.

This chapter is bleak because it shows how systems win: by getting victims to police their own hope.
