Chapter six is the full showdown with Principal Denver, and it is ugly from both sides. Denver, with his overshaved neck and John Carradine look, tries the official speech about concern, counseling, and consequences after the Carlson attack. Charlie will not play along. He says Denver and Grace are not qualified to deal with him, then keeps escalating until the whole meeting turns personal and obscene.

The concrete turning point is administrative and emotional at once: Denver expels him and says transfer to Greenmantle is effective Monday. Charlie then stumbles into the outer office with his shirt open and fly unzipped, loudly claiming Denver tried to rape him. He is provoking everyone in sight, but he is also testing whether Denver can still control the situation.

When Charlie leaves, Denver does not come after him. That silence matters more than any speech. Charlie reads it as proof that the adults are out of moves, and he describes a sudden calm settling into his body. He says he gave Denver every chance, waited at the stairs, and then “got it on.”

This is the point of no return.
