Chapter 9 is very short and almost dreamlike. Tess drifts in and out inside the old store, catching smells, objects, and random memories more than full thoughts. The writing mirrors concussion logic.
Even with minimal action, this section matters because it shows her mind trying to hold onto identity through tiny details. She is still trapped between collapse and motion.
My takeaway is that this interlude keeps the trauma grounded in body experience, not just plot progression.
