So here is what happened. Bob is at the bottom of the stairs, paralyzed and looking at her. Darcy knows he wants to say something, probably an apology or a deal. But Darcy does not want to hear it. She does not want to give him a chance to manipulate her again.
She goes down to him. She is not crying or screaming. She is just focused. She takes a plastic bag and a dishwiper to suffocate him. It is a slow and ugly process. Bob tries to fight, but his body will not listen to him.
The Perfect Crime
Killing him was the easy part. The hard part is the aftermath. Darcy has to make it look like an accident so no one suspects the “perfect wife” just murdered her husband. She stages everything perfectly and waits for his body to get cold.
Then she makes the 911 call. She acts hysterical and makes it sound like she just walked in and found him. It is an Oscar winning performance. Officer Harry Shrewsbury arrives and he is a kind man. He sees a grieving widow, not a killer.
The Aftermath
Darcy realizes that if you have a good reputation, people will believe almost anything. Bob’s death is ruled an accident. The “perfect” life they built together is protecting her even now.
But Darcy has to live with what she did. She has to look her children in the eye and tell them their father is gone. She has to keep this secret forever. The world thinks she is a victim, but she is the one who ended the nightmare.
