Big Driver Chapter 7: The Dancing Monster

Tess drifts in and out of consciousness. The store smells like old coffee and pickles. She’s in agony. She sees the giant dancing around her, tossing his hands and singing “Brown Sugar” in a tuneless voice.

It’s one of the creepiest scenes. This guy just committed a brutal crime and he’s celebrating. He’s a total psycho. Tess realizes she needs to pretend to be dead to survive.

But then he stops singing. He comes closer and starts choking her. He wants to finish the job. Tess actually feels a sense of relief—she thinks the pain is finally going to end. She black out again as his hands squeeze the life out of her.
