Big Driver Chapter 37: The Stakeout
Tess arrives at Alvin’s house at 23 Township Road. It’s a tidy place on top of a hill. She kills her lights and drives in by moonlight.
A motion-activated pole light floods her with white glare. A dog starts barking like crazy. Tess is terrified she’s tripped a trap. She hides her Expedition behind a long trailer-box and waits for the light to time out.
She’s sweating and terrified, but she stays. The dog finally stops barking. She’s a “bug in a bottle” now. She can’t leave without meeting Al on the driveway. She has to see this through. She’s got her gun, her oven glove, and her resolve. The wind is howling, and the night is full of boogeyman shadows.
