Quantitative Easing: What It Is and How It Works

So you have probably heard the phrase “money printing” thrown around online, usually with a meme attached. The technical name for the thing people are talking about is quantitative easing, or QE. Chapter 11 of Michail’s book opens here, and the first half is mostly about explaining what QE actually is and why central banks reached for it in the first place. Let me walk you through it.

So in the last post we left off with the gold standard cracking and the world heading into the Great Depression. This second half of Chapter 2 is where the modern banking system actually gets built. Not because anyone planned it nicely, but because the old system fell apart and people had to patch it. This is the part where I started nodding along, because most of the stuff we take for granted today came out of these years.
